My favorite French Apple Pie! It has an easy crumb topping so you don't have to do a pastry topping.

French Apple Pie


  • One pastry pie shell
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Dash of salt
  • 6 cups thinly sliced apples

Ingredients for Crumb Topping:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup firm butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar


  1. Line a 9" pie pan with pastry.
  2. Stir together sugar, flour, nutmeg, cinnamon, and dash of salt.
  3. Mix lightly with 6 cups thinly sliced apples.
  4. Pour into pastry-lined pie pan.
  5. Mix until crumbly the ingredients for the crumb topping.
  6. Sprinkle crumb topping over the pie.
  7. Bake 40-50 minutes at 425 degrees. If the topping or crust is browning too quickly, cover with foil for the last 15 minutes of baking.
