Last Thursday, I shared how I have been challenged that I need to make sure I am seeking God’s face.
I showed how I have my new notebook, my favorite commentary, and my pens and markers ready. After one week of using the system, I have to admit that I did not get in my devotions daily. However, on the days that I did do my devotions, I got so much more out of them and I remembered throughout the day to pray about different issues I was experiencing.
I know that I get in the habit of going about the day in my own strength unless I consciously remember to start out with God in the morning. On the days that I took time to read a portion of Scripture (sometimes only 5-6 verses), and then read the commentary and write any good quotes or notes that I saw, I remembered throughout the day to watch my mouth or to pray for someone instead of getting upset.
One day I was reading in Mark about Jesus being tempted by Satan, and the quote from William’s MacDonald’s commentary said,
Testings are inevitable for the believer. The closer one follows the Lord, the more intense they will be.
This week has been more of a struggle with one of my daughters — again. The past couple of weeks had been better, but we have had a few struggles this week. I don’t know why it is this week, but this quote reminded me that Satan would love to defeat our family and that I need to earnestly pray for my daughter and for the way I react to her.
On another day, I was reading about John the Baptist. In Mark 1:7 he says, “There comes One after me who is mightier than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop down and loose.” William MacDonald said about John the Baptist:
He was a man who subordinated all the things to the glorious task of making Christ known.
Wow! What a wonderful testimony to be said about John the Baptist. My goal in life should be first and foremost to make Christ known.
A good reminder for my husband and I as we are in full-time ministry came from Mark 1:10 where we see the Spirit of God descending upon Jesus. Here William MacDonald said,
A person may be educated, talented, and fluent, yet without that serious quality we call unction, his serving is lifeless and ineffective.
We need the Spirit’s leading and blessing on our lives and ministry if anything good is to come of it.
I really believe that because of my purposeful attempt to get into God’s Word daily that I was more in tune to praying for different life events throughout the day. Knowing that spiritual warfare is real made me take time to pray for President-elect Donald Trump as soon as I woke up on Wednesday morning. If Secretary Hillary Clinton was the President-elect, I would have done the same thing for her. We know that God can turn the heart of kings. I am praying that President-elect Trump will surround himself with godly leaders who will influence him to make the right decisions for our country. I am praying that if he is not a born-again believer, that he will become one. I am praying for Vice-President elect Pence, that Satan will not be allowed any stronghold in his life. That he will be able “subordinate all things to the glorious task of making Christ known.”
We know this to be true:
You are in a battle. I am in a battle. Let’s arm ourselves with the Word of God so that we can win!
More important than who will be the President of the United States is our purpose for living each day. Are we trying to make Christ known in everything we do?
