Many of you know that I like to bake at Christmas time, and that I try to bake something every day for a couple of weeks so that I have a variety of goodies for my Christmas tins. I love bars as they do not take as much time as some other desserts, and if they are cut in small squares, they go a long way.
I love these fudge filled bars because, well do I really have to explain why I love fudge in bars? Anything with a fudgy layer wins me over!
This dessert is not necessarily a Christmas dessert, but I put red and green M & M’s on top of them, and they look great for Christmas.
HOWEVER . . . I had one problem that I did not realize I had until I had already mixed up the crust part of the bars.
I didn’t have regular green and red M & M’s! I had the mini size M & M’s, but I wanted to save most of them for another dessert. So I pulled out the fall M & M’s I had bought yet never used. The kids sorted out all the brown ones, and I used the gold and red ones along with some mini red and green M & M’s. Mission accomplished!
Fudge Filled Bars
Ingredients
- 2 cups quick-cooking oats
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup butter or margarine melted
- 1 cup chopped pecans optional--I usually don't use anymore as so many people are allergic to different kinds of nuts.
- 1 can 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup 6 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 1 cup plain M & M's

Here’s my post I did a long time ago on those! Love them! Your post looks so much nicer though, so I’m not going to link up–I don’t even have a picture on mine. π But I’ll try to remember the Tasty Tuesdays linkup for the future!
Oops, here it is: http://itavitaafrican.wordpress.com/2013/02/26/fudge-filled-bars/
Glad you found something! I’m getting caught up on comments, and I’ll come pin it by next Tuesday, I promise!
Thsee sound absolutely amazing!! Sadly we can’t eat them at our house, but I may have to try to adapt them to something we can eat. If I do, and they turn out, I will let you know.
I would love to know if you do! Allergies and sensitivities are hard to figure into many recipes!
These look so good…I might have to add them to my baking list:)
I’m sure you have quite a list already! I have 10-14 favorites I do every year just at this time. I’ll come and pin your link by next Tuesday!
I did get something linked up! π
Wow, you’re ambitious – you bake something every day???!
I love fudge, so these bars look right up my alley!
I try to just for 2 weeks in December. I give out a lot of goodies and take them to parties, so that’s what works for me! Thanks for coming over!
Those look awesome. How do I sign up to be a taste tester for you? LOL
I wish you could! Oh, well–maybe one day we’ll meet in person!
Thank you so much for hosting this link-up! I was so proud of my little soup I made and I’m getting so few hits on it so far. I look forward to trying out some of your sweet treats too! π
The soup looks delicious–I can’t wait to try it as I love soup!
Um… Yum! Thanks for sharing!
You’re welcome! I love this recipe!
Great! They are pretty easy to make too!
I know-yummy right? Well, once a year won’t kill us–and we give away a lot of them!
Chocolate and caramel are definitely my weak points!
I love that you bake something every day and have lots in your tins. Do you freeze some of it? It’d be perfect to gather up and give as gifts.
I do freeze it all almost, then I take it out when I do my tins. (I put some just on plates and cover them up.) I put everyone’s last names on sticky papers, put them in front of the tins around the edge of my table, and go around and make up everybody’s at one time.
Fudge Filled Bars!!! How am I just learning about these? I can’t wait to try them. These will be served for Christmas this year!
Thanks for the link up. π
You’re welcome! I love making them every year at Christmas.
I think the gold M&M’s worked perfectly. Nice touch of contrast
Thanks! I think I like it too–sometimes the things you don’t plan on turn out the best!
Seriously drooling over this recipe! Can I come to your house? I will bring the milk π
π I seriously wish I could meet all the bloggers in our group–you guys are all awesome!
These look sooo good….anything with fudge in it and I’m sold!
Me too–that and caramel, so I’m heading over to see your dessert!
These look so yummy! I’m sure they don’t last long! All the candy and fudge, it has to be a hit!
I do stick them in the freezer so they last for all our Christmas tins!
I cut mine small–as I pair them with other desserts, and then I feel like I can have a few π
Thanks for stopping by and linking up @ Whatever Wednesday! Hope you again this week.
I love the holiday colors of your bars⦠thanks so much for bringing them by foodie friday.
These bars look amazing! Thanks for sharing the recipe and inviting me to your linky parties π
