My mom and I both found this recipe one year in the Sunday coupon inserts in our newspaper. My mom tried it out first and really liked it. So it is one now that she will request sometimes for her birthday dinner. I made it just like the recipe said for her last birthday except that I quadrupled the recipe and doubled the shrimp! Yeah, we have a big family!
Shrimp Linguine Alfredo
Ingredients
- 8 ounces linguine
- 1 Tablespoon butter or margarine
- 1 pound medium fresh shrimp peeled and deveined
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 package 3 ounces cream cheese, cubed
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil leaves optional
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
-
Cook pasta according to package directions; drain.
-
Meanwhile, in large skillet over medium heat, melt butter.
-
Sprinkle shrimp with garlic salt; cook until shrimp turn pink (about 2 minutes.)
-
Add milk and heat just to boiling; stir in cream cheese and basil.
-
Reduce heat, stirring constantly until cream cheese is completely melted.
-
Remove from heat; stir in Parmesan cheese.
-
Toss hot pasta and sauce; serve immediately.

You can tell that in the pot, the sauce is a little runny; but it thickened up after sitting for a few minutes.

This looks yummy and super easy! My daughter loves shrimp but I’m not a huge fan but I bet this would be great with chicken too. ๐
That’s what I told a friend who can’t have shellfish–that chicken would taste great as well. Thanks for stopping by!
This looks yum. Help me, though. I’m a mess with shrimp. There are so many kinds to choose from and sizes too. What kind do you buy for this recipe (size of shrimp, deveined, raw, etc.) and about how much does it cost? Thanks!
Most are deveined now, but I buy medium, raw deveined, shell-on shrimp that has to be cooked (not the kind that you eat at parties cold with sauce.) So I have to defrost it and take off the shell (easy, but a little time consuming.) Then I cook it, and it cooks up fast–just until it is pink. I often get it at Aldis and I think it is around $6 a pound. There’s around 50-60 shrimp in the bag I buy. We only get it for special occasions. Hopefully, this answers your questions!
It is good! I’m reading all these food posts too right now! Not good!
I can see how yummy it is by looking at how your daughter enjoy it. Please, send one for me….
I wish I could, Adelien! Hopefully we will meet one day in person!
Oh my gosh I love the look of this, but my husband is lactose intolerant and my boy HATES shrimp. Sigh. Maybe I can make it for me and my mom in 10 years if boy is in college and hubby is on a hunting trip? In the meantime, I think others will really enjoy those, so will be pinning ๐
Well, you could easily substitute chicken, and change the milk to soy milk or lactose free, but I don’t know how to fix the cream cheese and parmesan cheese. We went total dairy free for a few weeks and it was hard as we love cheese–the milk was easy to substitute, but not the cheese. Thanks for pinning.
Well, I think he’s okay with most cheeses. It’s just ice cream and milk. I wonder how it would taste with soy?
I think it would taste fine, or use the lactose free milk. When I had to substitute, I thought it was the coconut and almond milks that really changed the taste.
I’m aiming on coming over–still have a post to write! ๐
