Most of you know from all of my blog posts how my father-in-law passed since my last Scattered Saturday post. If you are a friend on Facebook, then you have seen all the pictures that have been posted, but here are just a few from the funeral.
Since he was a Green Beret for 3 tours of duty and met his wife there (Dave’s mom), he had full military honors at the funeral. Here was the video of the flag presentation:
Even though death is sad, we had a lot of living the past couple of weeks together as well. We were all together as a family for many days. There were tears, but there were good times too. We cleaned and worked, and then we ate ice cream! Sunday was the last day for all the siblings to be together, so we walked to the local Dairy Queen where the siblings always used to go as kids.
This week has been all about trying to get into some kind of normal rhythm again. We started swimming classes, so I finished sewing all of the girls swimshirts just in time. Two of the 4 scheduled days got rained out as we have had a very rainy summer so far. We also had another garage sale. At the end of the garage sale, most of the “stuff” went to a thrift store. We felt that it was a success just by clearing out some of our house.
A little bit got packed for our upcoming move. Much more needs to be done the next couple of weeks. It’s now crunch time. We also were able to go to Cantigny with some friends. That is always fun for the kids as they get to climb on the tanks and do a little craft. The moms enjoy getting to talk to one another, so it’s a win-win for every one!
They had a special event for some Vietnam veterans this weekend, and I teared up as I talked to one of the vets who was there. The kids got to try on some uniforms from (I think) World War I.
This week, we’ll do more swimming lessons, packing, and a lot with my family as it is our last week with one of my sisters before she goes back to South Africa. Today, we have a lunch outing with another family in our church and a piano recital to go to. I hope you have a great weekend and that your summer has been going great!
