Our first big event in December was that Dave and I took a trip to Florida to visit the church that we will be moving to in June. It was my first time there; and at that time, we had no idea that we would be really moving there later. Now as I look back at the December pictures, it is bittersweet as I now know that it was the last Christmas where we were close to both sides of family. Next Christmas will be very different, but I know we will make good memories as a family wherever we are.
It was fun to be by ourselves without the kids. We also got to see some wonderful Christmas lights too! It felt a little weird to be walking around in short sleeves looking at Christmas lights. We were able to walk along a beautiful bridge in Clearwater and see the beautiful palm trees.
When we got back home, we immediately were thrown into all the Christmas festivities. Our kids had their Christmas program which also meant that the classes we taught had their programs. They did well, and it was fun to experience that event with the other parents of the children we teach.
We always celebrate my side of the family’s Christmas earlier than Christmas day as many of my family go spend Christmas week in Michigan with my grandma. My dad told the Christmas story this year, which is always the first thing we do at this Christmas event. Then we have fun opening all the presents. It’s a crazy, fun time!
This was our year to stay in Illinois for Christmas to spend with Dave’s side of the family. We first opened our presents at home. I tried to take pictures of all the kids before we started opening presents, but some of the pictures didn’t turn out so well.
Then we were able to spend the rest of Christmas Day and much of that week with Dave’s side of the family. The kids always like it when Dave’s sister and family comes in town as they get to play with those cousins. We had a couple of sleepovers with them, which was a lot of fun. We also were able to go out to eat with them and just have a couple of relaxing weeks off of work.
It seems hard to believe that all of this happened only 3 months! Our lives have been changed a lot since then. It makes me realize that each day counts, and we need to live it for Christ and redeem the time!
