This is my first year for all the kids to be in school! I do go in every morning and teach Phonics, Reading, and English to the three students that are in Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades in our little church school. Then sometimes Kiley comes home with me for the afternoon. However, after teaching full-time last year and never seeing my house, this year with my free afternoons is a luxury.
Here are some 5 things I have already enjoyed in my free afternoons during our first week of school:
A date with my husband
My husband and I have been so bad at taking time to spend time together. We moved cross-country in June, and we just haven’t been able to go out without the kids. We’ve been married 17 years, and we need to make sure that we focus on our relationship. This week, we realized we can go out for lunch on Tuesdays and not take up any of our family time at night.
Read a book
I love reading, so it is wonderful to spend an hour reading a book without any interruptions.
Shopping by myself.
That may not seem like a luxury to you; but if you have ever gone shopping with 5 children, you would understand why this is a luxury to me. My kids are actually good in the stores, but it’s easier and faster to go by myself. And kind-of fun! Plus now, I don’t have to do it on Friday night or on Saturday, which is what I had to do last year. I get to try on clothes, buy birthday gifts, and not get asked to buy special treats. (And I can also get myself a Frappuccino if I want to!)
Time for my hobbies.
If I want to blog or scrapbook or exercise, I have a little bit of time to do that. I don’t have a lot of time as I do work in the morning, but I do have some time. I can also call or Skype a friend or my parents for an uninterrupted phone call.
Eating a special lunch for only me.
I sometimes come home from school right at noon, and I want an easy, quick meal so I can get my other activities done before the kids arrive home. But I don’t want a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I feel like I am pampering myself by eating a Lean Pocket for lunch. I don’t do that when all the kids are home as they all want one, so that is a treat just for me. They only take 2 minutes to prepare!
I also don’t feel guilty treating myself to a Lean Pocket lunch as they’re a good source of protein and have 100% real cheese and no artificial flavors. I absolutely loved the White Meat Chicken Broccoli & Cheese with a whole grain flavor, but I also really want to try the Roasted Turkey Bacon & Cheese with a pretzel bread crust flavor. You can go HERE to see all the flavors that are available.
Why don’t you treat yourself too and buy yourself some Lean Pockets? Let me know what your favorite flavor is! And if you buy them soon, you can use this coupon and get $1.00 off the purchase of 3 flavors.
