The Lord is wonderful how He can make grieving and rejoicing go hand in hand. In the last Scattered Saturdays’ post, I showed pictures from the funeral of my father-in-law. This Saturday, we are all back together as a family for another Fourth of July. We spent yesterday together and had a wonderful time (even though the mosqitoes tried to devour us despite all our bug spray.)
We also had a busy week with my family as my one sister and her family left this past Monday to go back to South Africa. We had family pictures together as we won’t see them for another three years. I think they turned out great!
My kids were able to have many sleepovers with cousins last week; which Joshua really enjoyed as most of his cousins are girls, but my sister in South Africa has boys his age, so he too had a sleepover.
We finished swimming lessons too. Kaylin is all done now as she has done the last level a couple of times now. She still can’t dive off the diving board, but she can dive off the side perfectly, does great with her flip turns, and can swim many laps without stopping. They would love to have her on a swim team, and she would love to participate; but the cost of a being on a swim team and the high commitment that is required is too much for us right now.
Karis finished level 5, and Kristi finished level 4. Joshua will continue doing level 2 next year and Kiley will start real swimming lessons next year.
Kiley and the girl I babysit were able to play on the playground while we waited for the older kids to be done with their swimming lessons. They really enjoyed that time!
Kristi also was baptized on Sunday, which was a highlight for all of us. She has a desire to love the Lord, and we pray that she will always stay sensitive to the Lord’s leading. Dave was able to baptize her, and that was special for him as well.
We started packing in earnest to move and moving some things over to our new house already. My children had a playdate Monday that turned into a sleepover with some of their best friends. We all went to our new house on Tuesday, and my mom helped paint one wall in the girls’ bedroom, and I unpacked my nice dishes. There is still much to be done! New carpet and some flooring on the lower level will be put in starting on Monday.
For a few days, you can also get a free cookbook (download). It has some terrific recipes for the grill.
