It’s been 3 weeks since I have written an update on our family’s activities because I have been so busy!
Blogging has gone on the back burner a little bit as the kids are all home and our summer non-schedule has began. I knew summer was going to be crazy, which was why I asked for some guest posts in the spring. I can tell many bloggers are in the same predicament as I am in because a couple of asked to reschedule their posts until August or September. Since I will be homeschooling in the fall, I do not mind having a few guest posts slotted for those dates. If you are a blogger who would like to share a recipe, DIY post, or a craft with my readers, you can fill out this form.
On the last Scattered Saturdays, I shared how we had started T-ball. Today is our last game! It goes so fast. We had many rain dates this year, so we had some double headers to make up the rain dates. Joshua got a triple last night off a pitch, so he is doing very well and becoming more like his daddy. Dave’s best sport in high school was baseball even though it was not his favorite sport. Kristi is also doing well, but she also participated in soccer camp this week which she really enjoyed. Soccer might be more her sport.
The kids participated in their last day of traditional school — at least for now. As I am homeschooling next year, we are transitioning into a new chapter of our life. A couple of the teachers and I cried together when I picked up the kids as the Kindergarten teacher has taught my four oldest children. I will miss seeing them next year. I am so thankful for all my kids’ teachers and for the godly example they have been to my children. They have given my kids a wonderful academic foundation for me to build upon.
I was able to participate in the Illinois Christian Home Educators State Convention on Thursday and Friday. I ordered the last few books that I needed for next year and loved most of the sessions I went to. As my oldest is going into seventh grade, I went to a couple classes by Cheri Frame who shared how to have your kids do CLEP classes and more resources to get college credits before college (to save money!!) Her website, Credits Before College is very informative!
I also enjoyed Voddie Bauchman’s seminar, and I am looking forward to listening to the rest of his sessions when my friend and I get our DVD. His session was probably my favorite session for the family. His family is going to Zambia for a few years, and I am glad I got to hear him before he leaves the United States. You can read posts from his blog HERE.
Marilyn Boyer from Character Concepts was also a blessing as she taught “Learning to Delight in Your Children.” My daughter enjoyed sessions from Brian Wasko who is the founder of WriteAtHome and Daniel Craig’s session, “Do Something! Engage Life for The Glory of God. We also enjoyed listening to Phillip Telfer again (we heard him a couple of years ago) and I bought his new book which I do not see on his website yet. We got his DVD, Captivated (affiliate link), a couple of years ago and would recommend any family that has children watching it.
As a family, we have been able to take a couple of bike rides which is always fun. We also held our first garage sale as we have too much stuff! With our upcoming move, we definitely have to downsize in our worldly possessions. I plan on having another garage sale this weekend.
I also started sewing swimsuit shirts for the girls. I am not overly happy with Kaylin’s shirt. I made them some a few years ago, and I liked those better, but we’ll see how the rest go. They have swimming class in another week, so I need to get busy!
Kristi turned 8, and she had a birthday cookie cake for her dessert. She enjoyed her day. (Some pictures are on my husband’s phone.)
The youngest two girls also got to attend a little bit of a princess party at our church and meet a few of our church members who dressed up as princesses. They enjoyed that!
For our sadder news, my father-in-law is on hospice and only 93 pounds. We are praying for him to come to know Christ as his Savior very soon. There are other health and spiritual needs in my husband’s family that we are praying about as well.
